Pitchfork Music Festival Paris 2012 – what a lovely festival that was! Thanks to La Blogothèque we can now re-experience the festival’s and the city’s feel by watching a couple of take-away performances/shows by bands like The Walkmen, DIIV or How To Dress Well.
British jazz-dub-darkwave wunderkind Archy Marshall alias King Krule (formerly known as Zoo Kid) has a new release out now on Rinse Records. It’s a single called «Rock Bottom» (b/w «Octopus»), a jazzed-out and very energetic song, in which Marshall beside his own lyrics also quotes Mike Skinner / The Streets.
Here’s the brand-new video for the song, directed by Paraic & Michael Morrissey. In it we see King Krule getting attacked by a middle-aged man and a dog in an underground walkway and other pretty strange things. The whole thing is kinda dark and trippy, all in all perfectly fitting to Marshall’s music.
San Francisco’s one and only Ty Segall performed a cut off his new solo record Twins(his third album of 2012, out now on Drag City) on Late Show with David Letterman last night. Watch the banging performance above.
Alex Schaaf, Michael Tapper and Jon Natchez from Yellow Ostrich are back with another infectious tune! «’Til I Disappear» starts with a lonely guitar riff and sounds quite like the «usual» stuff from the band at first, but in the middle it turns into a noisy rock jam with a crazy guitarsolo and lots of fuzzy effects. Yeah!
Good old Pitchfork pointed me out to Olympia based four-piece Milk Music. The band is to be located somwhere in the grungy spheres between Dinosaur Jr. and the Meat Puppets. They haven’t released anything so far, except for a mostly unnoticed 6 song LP called Beyond Living last year.
I wonder how it could happen, that this band didn’t get more attention, especially in the course of the big Yuck and 90ies-rock hype. Below I’ll give you some songs off their only release and there’s a nice session they did at New Jersey’s WFMU this summer. There’ll be more to come, maybe they even manage to create an internet presence (as they don’t have anything likely so far)!
