Welsh musicianSweet Baboois one of my favourite discoveries of the last months. Ever since I received a digital promo copy of his new album, I’m hooked to his brass laden, joyous indie pop. The album is preceded by the slow single “Let’s Go Swimming Wild” that you can download below.
Sweet Baboo’s forthcoming album Ships is due for release in April 2013 on Moshi Moshi. This will probably be one of my favourite albums of this year!
Some of you might already heard of it, but to most of you this festival might still be pretty unknown. Le Guess Who? is a international music festival that takes place in the old city of Utrecht, in Holland. I had the pleasure to experience Le Guess Who? last year for the first time and was just overwhelmed by the loveliness of the event and especially the good nose for young and upcoming, but yet advanced and promising acts.
This year’s edition will take place from November 29 to December 2nd and faces appearances by established acts just as Deerhoof, Do Make Say Think, Why? or Destroyer and some of our favourite bands of 2012 like FIDLAR, Matthew Dear, Lower Dens, DIIV or Ty Segall among many others! You can check the entire line-up here.
But for now we’d like to make you aware of one of the smaller acts to play the festival this year: It’s the Montreal-based psych-garage outfit EACH OTHER. The three piece consisting of Brad Loughead, Mike Wright and Christian Simmons plays an unique blend of watery guitars, muted bass and dreamy vocals, creating psychedelic-pop gems hidden behind a curtain of fuzz. Don’t miss them! They’ll play the festival on Friday.
Make sure to download their two EPs and 7”-single on their bandcamp page for free!
Already being part of the recent guerolitoplaylist 08|12, Lucerne’s indie darlings Alvin Zealot are readying their second album Flux for a 21st of September release. As their well-crafted first single “Flux” points out, the new record is drawing its inspiration from the more pyschedelic and dusty corners of indie rock. This is going to be big, believe me.
Moon Duo will be back with a new album, Circles due to be released on 1st October 2012. The opener “Sleepwalker” shows them at their best – with pounding guitar grooves and fuzzed-out vocals.
Max, aka the Eyelid Kid, from Inspired & The Sleepsent us over his new single “Take Pills (Instructed Bliss)” from his upcoming album Teenager. This is what he says about the song:
“The song is sort of a sarcastic dedication to how our society, ravers, even myself functions mentally, socially, and physically through the use of pills. It was put together through a series of live recorded percussion loops, a drum machine setting from my toy Casio keyboard, flute, uke, and bass.”
He might be the only one to describe this sunny indie-pop gem, I won’t even try and will just enjoy this beautiful tune.
Brooklyn’s Mike Wexlercertainly is no newcomer anymore, after already having released stuff under his real name since 2005. He’s just released his second album Dispossession via Mexican Summer and I want to seize the chance to familiarize you guys with his music.
Out of nothing, he surprises the listener with a collection of 7 haunting songs, all of them beautiful in their own way. Listening to Mike Wexler’s new stuff is like weightlessly floating through space in a dream you never want to end. Dispossession is maybe the best album of 2012 so far.

You might remember Brooklyn psych-pop outfit Keepawayfor their 2010 EP Baby Style and their songs “Yellow Wings” and “5 Rings” as parts of guerolitoplaylists. If not, doesn’t matter – Keepaway have just released a new song which you should check out in any case: “Cake” is the first sign of the band first full-length album called Black Flute.
The record will be released January 10, 2012 via Greedhead.
