Mac DeMarco celebrates his birthday (he turned 23 today) with the release of another video for a song off his latest album 2: «My Kind of Woman». In it, the Canadian ‘slacker’, who is on tour all over Europe right now, turns into… well, someone else. Check it out by yourself in the player above.
Montreal’s slacker and Viceroy-addict Mac DeMarco is definitely one of the most original and hilarious dudes in today’s indie scene. Before playing a show somewhere in New York City he recently hit Pitchfork TV’s office with his band for «making a little rock-’n'-roll for ya» / playing a 40 min set for the «Safe Work Work» series.
It’s a performance featuring loads of jokes by Mac and his bandmates, screaming, declarations of love, a little dog walking around onstage, Facebook notification sounds from the sound engineer’s Macbook (I guess), a Dave Brubeck cover, a Limp Bizkit cover, a Beatles cover and well… A lot more. What a bunch of heroes!
P.S: In case you’re in love with Mac and his pals too, also watch the following video, in which which you hear a cover version of Nirvana’s «Come As You Are» featuring the likes of Beach Fossils (Mac’s label mates on Captured Tracks). Good times!
Along with the announcement of their new studio album Birthmarksyesterday, Canadian indie rockers Born Ruffiansgive away the first single “With Her Shadow” as a free download.
The new album will be out April 16 via Paper Bag Records.
Some of you might already heard of it, but to most of you this festival might still be pretty unknown. Le Guess Who? is a international music festival that takes place in the old city of Utrecht, in Holland. I had the pleasure to experience Le Guess Who? last year for the first time and was just overwhelmed by the loveliness of the event and especially the good nose for young and upcoming, but yet advanced and promising acts.
This year’s edition will take place from November 29 to December 2nd and faces appearances by established acts just as Deerhoof, Do Make Say Think, Why? or Destroyer and some of our favourite bands of 2012 like FIDLAR, Matthew Dear, Lower Dens, DIIV or Ty Segall among many others! You can check the entire line-up here.
But for now we’d like to make you aware of one of the smaller acts to play the festival this year: It’s the Montreal-based psych-garage outfit EACH OTHER. The three piece consisting of Brad Loughead, Mike Wright and Christian Simmons plays an unique blend of watery guitars, muted bass and dreamy vocals, creating psychedelic-pop gems hidden behind a curtain of fuzz. Don’t miss them! They’ll play the festival on Friday.
Make sure to download their two EPs and 7”-single on their bandcamp page for free!
For his new video of “She Is The Wave”, Doldrums mastermind Airick Woodheadwas helicopter dropped into the morrocan desert. ”She Is The Wave” taken from the highly anticipated album Lesser Evil out February 25th via Souterrain Transmissions in Europe.
The Canadian band with the best band name ever, Top Less Gay Love Tekno Party, has just released a video and free MP3 of their single “Robin”. It’s a song about threesomes, friends, confusion and a trip to Berlin. (where the DIY-video was shot btw.)

On September 4th, Montreal’s Stars will release their new album titled The North via ATO. Below you can find the mp3 of their new song, the synth-loaded “The Theory of Relativity”.
