I’m considering myself to be quite a sucker for dreamy shoegaze sounds. Must be the reason why I fell for Taxes‘ “Over The View” right away. Flynn Wheeler‘s solo work can be filed somewhere between M83, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart and Wild Nothing and brings back the 80ies to your speakers, without sounding too stale.
Taxes’ debut EP Back Of The Car Collection is ready for you to be bought at bandcamp - I highly recommend to download the entire record.

In late 2012, Wild Ones was on the verge of collapse. Guitarist Clayton Knapp had blown out an eardrum, the band’s original drummer left the group and his replacement, Seve Sheldon, was in the hospital with a punctured lung, practicing songs on a drum pad with a tube sticking out of his chest.
The press text on Wild Ones‘ facebook page summarizes the difficulties the Portland indie collective had to deal with during the recording of its debut album. Nevertheless, and fortunately, they managed to get through these hard times and finally released Keep It Safe back in July. Over the last months the smartly arranged composed indie pop songs have made their ways through several music blogs, while a major breaktrough hasn’t been made yet. Considering the quality of their debut record this is only a matter of time though.
You can purchase the entire record (including a limited white vinyl edition) over at bandcamp.

Over the last one and a half years lots of new UK indie pop outfits with experimental approach have been at the mercy of comparisons to the omnipresent Alt-J. Sometimes clearly unjustified, sometimes justified. Because some acts clearly took advantage of the hype around the Leeds-based four piece.
Newcastle’s Blank Maps might or might not be one of them. Actually it doesn’t really matter as their new song is a catchy hybrid of fleet-footed indie pop and electronic influences, is enjoyed best without any ulterior motives.

English producer Gang Colours has released his recommended sophomore album earlier this week. His new single “Why Didn’t You Call?” features the highly talented Lulu James who’s joining Will Ozanne on vocals in this smooth track.
Invisible In Your City is available now from Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings. Also, don’t miss Gang Colours performing at Sudpol Luzern on the 18th October at 15 years of Radio 3FACH, where he’s sharing the bill with Washed Out.

UK Garage rockers Mazes have not only released a great LP called Ores & Minerals this year, they have a 10 song mini-album coming out in October on FatCat Records. The nervous first song off this new record named Better Ghosts can be streamed below. Caution: It’s extremly catchy!

Dean Blunt, part of Hype Williams and musical partner of Inga Copeland, has unexpectedly dropped a new album last week. Stone Island picks up where The Redeemer left off earlier this year, merging elements of R’n'B, sould and electronic music.
One of the highlights off the record is “Two”. Both the song and the entire album can be downloaded for free.
