Ascot trio Febueder has just released its debut EP Soap Carv, a collection of four highly maverick indie pop jams. Sometimes you might hear similarities to UK acts such as Alt-J or Blank Maps, but the three lads also seem to have listened to a lot of older Animal Collective or The Ruby Suns songs during the recording sessions. Febueder’s diverse inspirations in their songs are distinguishable but still they manage to create a strikingly unique sound despite their young age.
You can purchase the entire EP via Tape Club Records.

Some hours ago I was recommended “Sweat”, debut single by dutch artist Pink Oculus by a friend of mine. The song blew my mind at first listen, convincing with a wobbly beat and Esperanzah Denswil‘s soulful vocals and great rapping skills. I was pretty sure that it must have created quite a buzz already, but I was wrong. It seems like the blogosphere hasn’t gotten scent of this mind-blowing tune. Well, time to start the buzz.

At the tender age of 15, Sydney’s Lupa a.k.a. Imogen Jones already writes songs that make seasoned musicians go green with envy. Having benefited from a strong classical music education playing violin, Imogen found her way into producing her own folktronica gems out of her bedroom. It’s hard to believe that a girl that age has produced songs like the ones posted below all on her own. Especially “The Creature” mesmerizes with elaborate drum beats, looped violin picking and Imogen’s delicate voice.
Find out more about her over on her Triple J Unearthed profile.

I’m considering myself to be quite a sucker for dreamy shoegaze sounds. Must be the reason why I fell for Taxes‘ “Over The View” right away. Flynn Wheeler‘s solo work can be filed somewhere between M83, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart and Wild Nothing and brings back the 80ies to your speakers, without sounding too stale.
Taxes’ debut EP Back Of The Car Collection is ready for you to be bought at bandcamp - I highly recommend to download the entire record.

In late 2012, Wild Ones was on the verge of collapse. Guitarist Clayton Knapp had blown out an eardrum, the band’s original drummer left the group and his replacement, Seve Sheldon, was in the hospital with a punctured lung, practicing songs on a drum pad with a tube sticking out of his chest.
The press text on Wild Ones‘ facebook page summarizes the difficulties the Portland indie collective had to deal with during the recording of its debut album. Nevertheless, and fortunately, they managed to get through these hard times and finally released Keep It Safe back in July. Over the last months the smartly arranged composed indie pop songs have made their ways through several music blogs, while a major breaktrough hasn’t been made yet. Considering the quality of their debut record this is only a matter of time though.
You can purchase the entire record (including a limited white vinyl edition) over at bandcamp.

Over the last one and a half years lots of new UK indie pop outfits with experimental approach have been at the mercy of comparisons to the omnipresent Alt-J. Sometimes clearly unjustified, sometimes justified. Because some acts clearly took advantage of the hype around the Leeds-based four piece.
Newcastle’s Blank Maps might or might not be one of them. Actually it doesn’t really matter as their new song is a catchy hybrid of fleet-footed indie pop and electronic influences, is enjoyed best without any ulterior motives.
