Same happened to me when I assumed that Hanni El Khatib has to be a World Music singer, which is entirely wrong. Hanni is a first generation American son of Palestinian and Filipino immigrants and grew up in San Francisco raised on a cocktail of skateboarding, punk rock, and 1950s and 60s classic Americana.
This influences you can clearly hear in his songs that are a mix of Blues, Garage Rock and Doo-Wop somewhere between The Black Keys and Jack White. Or to say it with Hanni’s own words:
“These songs were written for anyone who’s ever been shot or hit by a train. Knife fight music.”
Make sure to check out his great songs below and expect an ace debut album called Will the Guns Come Out, coming out 3rd October 2011 via Innovative Leisure.
