Just one more month to go until the debut record of Sub Pop signed Rose Windows will finally see the light of day. In November of 2011, the band led by Seattle songwriter Chris Cheveyo began working on the album with local producer Randall Dunn (SunnO))), Boris) and has compiled songs that are influenced by “the Band’s folk-infused rock, The Doors organ-driven psychedelia, and Black Sabbath’s blues-based dirges”. Now a fairly epic track was made available for free – it’s called “Wartime Lovers”.
Sun Dogswill be out June 25. Another song called “Native Dreams” can be downloaded on their label’s page.
Electronic R’n'B duo Dead Timesmight have released one of this year’s best tracks. “Centuries” floats between soft acoustic percussion, electronic beats and smooth vocal elements. This is amazing.
Head over to their bandcamp to download two more songs from the L.A. duo.
During the last couple of days, while enjoying a 4-day-weekend with slightly depressing weather here in Switzerland, I’ve been returning and returning to NNA Tapes’ Soundcloud page. The reason is/was this wonderfully smooth new «wierdo» pop tune by Vermont’s Ryan Power, which will be released as part of his upcoming new album Identity Picks (available June 25th). Give it a listen!
Berne’s Silver Firs are longtime-favorites of ours as you can see here or here or here or in many of our play- and year-end-lists. Soonish we get to hear new material by the band: A new EP is on its way and should be ‘out soon’ on Oh, Sister Records as this recently released promo video tells us.
Sounds promising! We are looking forward to new ‘forest music’ (that’s how they sometimes use to describe their music) from one of Switzerland’s most forward-thinking outfits…
Mac DeMarco celebrates his birthday (he turned 23 today) with the release of another video for a song off his latest album 2: «My Kind of Woman». In it, the Canadian ‘slacker’, who is on tour all over Europe right now, turns into… well, someone else. Check it out by yourself in the player above.
Once more the playlist summarizes the music posted here last month (which wasn’t much I’m afraid – sorry for that) and adds some more great tunes you did not know before. Enjoy!
After having heard the song “Forever” by Brooklyn outfit Lazyeyesearlier that day, I venture the guess that they’re gonna get bigger pretty soon. They’ve already caused a first stir after playing the last edition of CMJ and have constantantly won round more fans since then. Their sound, a dreamy attempt on lo-fi rock, is a perfect attunement for the coming summer.
You can buy their first 4-song EP on their bandcamp page. Check the video for “Wait” below, too, which is another highly promising cut from the EP.
